Why You Need To Plan For Fun
As men, we often find ourselves giving our all to our work, relationships, and families.
But then life has a way of throwing curveballs our way, testing our resilience and ability to cope.
It is in these moments that you have to have the strength to be able to support everyone who counts on you. This is your masculine energy and power. You need to feel it and the people around you need to see it.
It is not selfish of you.
You cannot pour from an empty cup. You need to focus on yourself so that you can be strong for others.
And that includes having fun and adventure.
Fun Is The Reward Your Body And Mind Need
If you are asking yourself “How can I have more fun?” then it shows you are already out of the habit.
Your brain is running on empty and it becomes a vicious circle. You are too miserable to have fun.
It’s not just the experience of having fun.
Our brain’s reward system needs us to have fun in order to produce the serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline and endorphins which motivate us and keep us focused on our mission.
These are the essential feel-good chemicals that busy burnt-out dads are missing.
Success Without Fulfilment
You can have all the success in the world but if you are not enjoying life then what is the point?
A lack of fun and adventure is part of the reason why you are successful but still feel miserable.
It is why REWARD comes at the top of the Power Code pyramid. I want you to have the clarity and confidence to succeed in life and have a rip-roaring adventure whilst you do it.
You must have plans to look forward to and memories to look back on. It is why we feel better once we have booked a holiday or agreed to see old friends.
Fun is literally essential.
It is the reward that you give yourself at the end of each day, week, month, year.
Understanding Reward in the POWER CODE
In the context of the POWER CODE, the letter ‘R’ stands for reward. It emphasizes that at the pinnacle of our efforts, there should always be room for fun and adventure.
Reward is about intentionally planning activities that bring us joy and fulfilment.
How Can I Have More Fun?
To help you incorporate REWARD into your life as a Team Super Dad, here are some practical activities to consider:
Daily Rewards:
- Take a few minutes each day for self-reflection, meditation, or mindful breathing.
- Engage in physical activity, such as a short workout, yoga, or a walk in nature.
- Champion yourself. Don’t just rush around thinking about what you have not done. Enjoy that coffee or beer and remind yourself of all you have accomplished today.
Date Nights:
- Plan regular date nights with your partner to nurture your relationship and create special memories.
- Explore new restaurants, try out fun activities together, or simply enjoy a cosy evening at home.
Quality Time with Children:
- Dedicate focused time to engage in activities that your children enjoy.
- Play games, read stories, go on adventures, have heartfelt conversations or simply tit-about and be silly together.
Nights Out:
- Plan ahead for concerts, sporting events, or other live performances to ensure you don’t miss out on the experiences that bring you joy.
- Take the time to socialize and connect with friends, creating lasting memories.
Weekends Away:
- Plan occasional weekend getaways to explore new places, relax, and rejuvenate.
- Whether it’s a family trip or a solo adventure, these breaks from routine can be incredibly rewarding.
Have Parties:
- Invite friends over for a meal, enjoy good food, and engage in meaningful conversations.
- Creating a warm and welcoming environment for your loved ones fosters a sense of connection and joy.
- Birthdays and New Years Eve happen every year. Make sure you have a party and go wild.
Making Reward a Core Element of Your Life
It’s crucial to reflect on how we operate. You need to have a structure in place so that you can make time for yourself and engage in rewarding experiences.
Whether it’s planning weekly, daily, or long-term rewards, incorporating fun and adventure into our lives is essential. These experiences help you tap into your masculinity and become the fathers your family needs you to be.
So if you want to be a Team Super Dad – the man and dad you want to be – then don’t forget to reward yourselves along this journey of fatherhood. Prioritize self-care, fun, and adventure. Remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish
